city bridge to be
'played like a harp'

It looks like a giant harp and now the Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin will be played like a musical instrument.

Composer Tom Lane has created a piece of music using gongs or "notes" generated by striking the support cables.

The pre-recorded tune will form part of a 35-minute show involving musicians, opera singers and dancers on the bridge on September 6. It marks the opening of the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival. Harp - A River Cantana, will be produced by Ulysses Opera Theatre.
