A DUBLIN publican must pay €1,000 because a customer would not go outside in the rain to have a smoke.
Edward Walsh, of the Long Island Bar on Dorset Street Upper, was fined €250 and ordered to pay €750 in legal costs after he pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to breaking the smoking ban. He was prosecuted by the HSE following an inspection of the pub last October 30.
The HSE said legal fees were €1,500, but the judge said the breach was minimal and Mr Walsh would have to pay €750.
