Children's champion Adi to meet UN chief

an Irish-funded "flying doctors" mission is underway to help children in eastern Ukraine.

Adi Roche of Chernobyl Children International (CCI) will brief UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the mission tomorrow.

He will be attending a ceremony at which he will be awarded the Tipperary International Peace Award.

"It is hugely important to brief Ban Ki-moon on the seriousness of the situation in eastern Ukraine," said Ms Roche.

"The situation is far from stable. The most vulner- able children are the latest victims and their lives are dangling in the balance."

The current "flying doctors" mission began last weekend.

Up to 40 critically-ill babies and children who urgently need cardiac surgery will be operated on by international surgeons.
