TWO children and two adults were on a small dinghy that ran aground on a rock near Dalkey.
The group were enjoying a bank holiday weekend sail at the south end of Dublin Bay yesterday afternoon when the dingy ran aground on Maiden Rock, north of Dalkey Island.
The Irish Coastguard received an emergency call and the Dun Laoghaire inshore lifeboat was despatched to the scene, which was a few hundred metres out from Colliemore Harbour.
However, another craft quickly managed to pull them off the rock ahead of the arrival of the lifeboat crew.
Later, the inshore lifeboat crew went to the aid of a 14ft hovercraft which developed engine trouble and broke down with one person on board just off a pier at Dun Laoghaire.
The Coastguard also received an emergency call from a member of the public who reported three teenagers in danger at Sandymount Strand in Dublin after they appeared to become cut off and surrounded by the incoming tide.
However, the teenagers managed to reach safety unaided.
