THE 40 children killed in the 1916 Rising will be remembered at a special prayer service in Dublin today.
A Service of Remembrance and Reclamation will begin at 10.40am at Saint Patrick's Parish Church in Ringsend and will be attended by President Michael D Higgins.
RTE broadcaster Joe Duffy (left) has championed the cause of the boys and girls who were slain on the streets of the capital 99 years ago.
"We hope that by this time next year we will have a permanent memorial to the 40 children who died," Joe told the Herald
"This is our second year holding a service for them, but it is special this year as the President agreed to attend."
The broadcaster will be present at the service along with local school children, musician Declan O'Rourke, and RTE Cor na nOg children's choir.
It will be broadcast on May 10 on RTE One television at 11am.
