The straw boaters and blazers were out in force as James Joyce fans celebrated Bloomsday in the sunshine in Dublin.
Club owner and equality champion Panti Bliss was master of ceremonies at the Bloomsday readings that took place in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar.
"I sort of forced myself in my 20s to open Ulysses with great trepidation because of its reputation," she told the Herald.
"But in fact it's not as difficult as a lot of people imagine."
Leading Joyce scholar David Norris, who was also in Meeting House Square, said interest in Bloomsday has grown enormously over the past 50 years.
"It's wonderful. It brings a great sense of joy," said the senator.
