FAST food makes up a whopping 37pc of the €6bn Irish food service market, followed by pubs, cafes and restaurants new research found.

A new report released by Bord Bia found restaurants are at 11pc, hotels at 6pc and business and industry at 5pc of the market.

The Foodservice Channel Insights Report found that leisure and travel, education, the defence forces and the prison service account for the rest.

The report values the Irish food service industry at €6.07bn at consumer prices. It shows in the past year that the hotels channel experienced its biggest growth increase since the recession began – expanding by 3pc between 2012 and 2013 to a market value of €384m at consumer prices.
