CAR group Renault says that sale volumes of new 141-registered cars have rocketed by 200pc on last year.

The company said it had a strong finish to 2013, with a 9.4pc market share of the industry. And the group has secured 8pc market share in the first 10 days of 2014.

In 2013, Renault introduced its new fourth generation Clio and the brand new Captur, which will see its first full year of sales in 2014.

Three new Dublin locations were opened in 2013, with Michael Grant Motors, Sandymount and Linders Renault in Finglas and Chapelizod.

The network also expanded through Bradley's in Galway, Hogan's in Clare and JJ Burke's in Mayo in 2013.

Renault's own bank, Renault Finance, has lent more than €100m to Irish customers since it opened its doors in 2012.

Patrick Magee, country operations manager, Renault Group Ireland, said that the new year was off to a "promising start".
