TOUGH guy actor Brendan Gleeson moved an audience almost to tears as he told how he and his dying mother watched an Italian opera together in a hospice.
The Hollywood A-lister, who had starred in Bruges, Gangs Of New York, Braveheart and The Guard, is a strong supporter of St Francis Hospice in Raheny, where his father Frank and mother Pat died. He spoke of the love, care and respect of staff in the hospice when he attended the launch of a new report.
"Both of my parents were lucky enough to end their days here," he told a packed auditorium in the hospice.
"My mother had been very ill, but the transformation here was monumental."
He admitted he was not a great opera fan, but said he and his mother watched La Traviata "for the whole afternoon before she died".
