Car trade sales rise

THE MOTOR trade continues to drive the recovery in retail sales which rose in June, new CSO figures revealed.

Total retail sales volumes for the month were listed at 1.1pc higher than in May, and 0.2pc higher when compared with the same month a year earlier. The car trade showed one of the largest increases over the year, gaining 21.9pc as the Government's car-scrappage scheme lifted sales.

However, when volatile car sales were excluded, the volume of retail sales declined.
