Call for IT training to get jobless find work

YOUTH unemployment in Ireland could be aided by developing IT skills, the President of the European Parliament has said.

Martin Schulz said that Europe must follow the example of the initiatives like Digital Skills Academy, which help move people from sectors worst hit by the recession and re-skill them for jobs in the digital sector.

He said: "If there is a will to fight against the misery linked to such unemployment of young people then initiatives like the Digital Skills Academy should be supported.

"The EU has perhaps the best educated generation the continent ever had, but yet has such a high degree of unemployment, and this needs to be tackled."
