Call for Dail debate over IRA victims

A Dail debate on the 'Disappeared' who were secretly murdered and buried by the IRA has been called for by coalition TDs.

It comes as Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams is under pressure after the broadcast of RTE/BBC documentary The Disappeared.

It featured a recording of the late IRA commander Brendan Hughes accusing Mr Adams of ordering Belfast mother-of-ten Jean McConville's execution. Mr Adams insists this is a lie.

But in the Dail, Fine Gael TD Patrick O'Donovan said: "Seven families are still waiting on closure and justice. They deserve all of the political support they can get."

Sinn Fein has signalled it would back such a Dail debate.
