Burglar took drugs before surf shop theft

A FATHER-of-two stole kite-surfing equipment from a specialist shop while under the influence of prescription drugs, a court heard.

Gary O'Reilly (29) was on tranquillisers when he took the €1,200 worth of goods.

Judge Bryan Smyth told him to pay compensation and adjourned the case at Dublin District Court.

O'Reilly, of Marshfield Road, Clongriffin, pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary at underground secure lock-ups for Pure Magic Surf Shop and Bay Restaurant, Clontarf Road, last April 1.

The court heard nothing was taken from the restaurant.

O'Reilly was "not thinking right at the time", his lawyer said.

The accused had now started his own carpentry business.
