'Bull' Dennehy lands among relieved travellers

American actor Brian Dennehy, currently in Ireland to play The Bull McCabe in The Field at The Gate, was mixing with the crowd at Dublin Airport waiting for relatives to come in for Christmas.

And for thousands of passengers, today was the day that would end all the waiting and worrying about getting home.

"We were here on Tuesday waiting to fly to Berlin, but our flight was cancelled," said Mark Zemietro, who was waiting with partner Marta Rudy.

"We then spent €300 on Aer Lingus flights to take us on the 26th, but later got €520 one-way flights to Poznan through Ryanair today," he added.

"I thought I wouldn't get home for Christmas, it is good to be with family at this time of year, so we are glad to be flying today," said Mark.

Mereta Dugutyte and her mum Ausma were waiting for cousins to fly in from Lithuania.

"They aren't delayed for too long thank God," said Mereta.

Waiting to fly was Julien and Elouise Bilet, with pal Laura Trillot. Despite their flight to Paris being cancelled yesterday, they were in festive form with their flashing Santa hats.

Arriving home on a surprise visit were Aisling Dowdle and her husband Garth, with their two-year-old son MacDaragh.

There to greet them was Aisling's father Billy Grimes from Drogheda.

"We flew in from Boston and thankfully got here. There was a flight cancelled yesterday and we were worried we wouldn't get out," said a smiling Aisling.
