Brown Thomas boosts staff by 200

LUXURY department store Brown Thomas plans to hire 200 temporary staff to meet demand for the Christmas.

The company is planning to invest more than €5m in its Grafton Street store in 2015 in a complete refit of its men and women's clothing departments.

The Christmas period is one of the store's busiest and last year BT took on 150 extra employees - but this year the figure has jumped to 200.

Brown Thomas revenues rose by 2pc to €146m in the year to February 1, 2014.

Operating profits were down by €500,000 to €5.5m due mainly to investment in the store's website. The accounts show that Brown Thomas paid a dividend of €20m to its UK parent company, Selfridges, last year.
