Brother (13) on killing charge

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder over the death of his five-year-old half-sister after investigators in New Orleans said he told them he repeatedly struck her with wrestling moves imitated from TV.

The moves allegedly included repeatedly slamming the girl on a bed, punching her in the stomach and jumping on her.

A coroner's investigation found the girl died of multiple injuries, including broken ribs, lacerations of the liver and internal bleeding.


The Taliban has claimed responsibility for an attack in Afghanistan that killed four US troops just hours after it announced it would hold talks with the US.

The attack underscores the challenges in trying to end the violence in Afghanistan through peace negotiations in Qatar with militants still fighting on the ground.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the insurgents fired two rockets into the Bagram airbase outside the Afghan capital Kabul.


Teen pop star Justin Bieber struck a photographer with his Ferrari sports car while driving away from a comedy club in Los Angeles on Monday night, but the accident was not considered a hit-and-run, police said.

Video taken outside the Laugh Factory comedy club showed Bieber behind the wheel of his white Ferrari, surrounded by photographers as he was pulling away.


THE owner of a pet grooming salon has settled a €70,000 rent arrears claim by her landlord, Patricia O'Farrell – mother of RTE Dragons' Den star, Niall.

The arrears arose from a dispute over "significant" repairs carried out at the property at Ranelagh in Dublin 6.

But the case was settled out of court after Judge Jacqueline Linnane told Dublin Circuit Civil Court that Muttugly grooming parlour proprietor and tenant Sinead Deegan was responsible for all repairs.
