Bra record bid lacks women's support

AN Irishman's cheeky world record bid to open the most number of bras in a minute is proving too racy for the local female population.

Sean Murray, whose Skibbereen shop houses the region's largest lingerie department, has issued an appeal for at least 70 women to let him unclasp their bras in a world record-breaking bid for a cancer charity.

But yesterday, Sean admitted that persuading lasses in west Cork to go topless in his store has been a struggle.

To date, just 30 ladies have signed up to take part in the bra bid on October 26, leaving Sean way short of the 40 volunteers he requires to break the record.

The record was set last year by Dutchman Dennis Storm, who opened 69 bras with just one hand in 60 seconds.

However, Sean said he hopes an appeal for volunteers he is making on tomorrow's Ireland AM show on TV3 will put his record attempt back on track.

And he has taken steps to spare the blushes of more prudish volunteers by allowing them to wear open-backed T-shirts,to keep their breasts hidden.

The retailer has also invited men to take part.

Sean and his staff are also attempting to set two more records in one day, fitting more than 500 women for bras in eight hours and fitting a further 500 men and women for jeans.

Customers are being offered a €2.50 discount on the sale of each bra sold from his shop this month, which Sean is matching with a €2.50 donation to the Irish Cancer Society. He is also giving €5 to the charity for every pair of jeans sold.
