Boy on bail for arson threat School rejects lesbian request

A boy has been remanded on bail pending sentence for threatening to burn down a woman's home when he was 13 years old after she complained that youths from a HSE care centre had attacked her son.

The boy, now aged 14, who is in care, pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to making a threat to cause criminal damage to the woman's home in Dublin, on February 7 last.

Defence solicitor Gareth Noble said that the boy had been in care for two years.

Mr Noble asked the court to adjourn sentencing for social work and probation reports to be furnished to the court. Judge Leonard agreed to adjourn the hearing until May.

School rejects lesbian request

A US school decided not to host a prom dance after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.

The Mississippi school district's policy requires that senior prom dates be of the opposite sex.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi had given the district until yesterday to change that policy. Instead, the school board said that it wouldn't host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton.
