Boy accused of street robbery

A JUDGE has refused to grant bail to a youth who allegedly held a broken bottle to a woman's neck during a robbery.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday last and brought before the Dublin Children's Court yesterday.

He was charged with robbing a woman of her handbag, including contents worth €150, criminal damage to her moped, and possessing a broken bottle as a weapon in James Joyce Street.

The court heard the boy was on bail when the incident occurred. He was remanded in custody pending directions from the DPP.



30 Rock star in kidney swap

Tracy Morgan, the star of hit US television comedy 30 Rock is recovering from a kidney transplant.

The actor-comedian (42) is doing well and taking "much-needed time" to recover from the surgery earlier this month, he said in a statement.

Morgan plays the goofy star of a TV show on 30 Rock. Another 30 Rock cast member, Grizz Chapman, also received a new kidney earlier this year.



Nazi killer (89) loses appeal

Germany's top criminal court rejected an 89-year-old man's appeal against a life sentence given to him for killing three Dutch civilians during the Second World War.

Heinrich Boere was sentenced to life in prison in March for the 1944 killings while he was part of a Nazi SS hit squad.

Boere, the son of a Dutchman and a German woman, admitted to the killings during his trial but insisted he was just following orders.



Murder-suicide wedding horror

A bridegroom fatally shot his new wife, his best man and then himself after announcing to horrified guests that he had a "surprise" for them.

Witnesses reported that Rogerio Damascena (29), a sales manager in Camaragibe, Brazil, did not give any previous indication that anything was wrong at his wedding reception.

Police would not speculate on a possible motive, but revealed the groom had hidden a gun in his father's pickup truck.
