Boy (2) dies after being struck by van near home

A two-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a van near his home in Tipperary last night.

The little boy, a member of the Travelling community, was on the Rossana Road near his home outside Tipperary Town when the accident occurred just before 8pm.

Gardai were quickly on the scene and battled to save his life.

The injured child was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital accident and emergency department but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The driver of the van and passenger were not injured in the incident.

The road was immediately closed for a forensic examination and remained closed this morning.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Tipperary Town garda station on 062-80670.

Earlier this week a woman in her 50s was killed in a three-car horror crash at Kiely's Cross in Ardmore, Co Waterford.
