Boy (13) arrested on petrol bombing of home

A THIRTEEN-year-old boy was one of three arrested in connection with the firebombing of a house in Bray in which a child was sleeping.

Gardai have expressed shock that a person so young could have been involved in the act which could have had fatal consequences if it wasn't for the quick-thinking actions of the house owner.

The incident happened on Parnell Road in the Co Wicklow town at the end of last month, leading to the recent arrests of the 13-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 20-year-old.

A petrol bomb was thrown at the house, which ignited.

The owner was inside with a young grandchild who was asleep at the time.

The quick-thinking owner managed to tackle the flames himself with a fire extinguisher and put out the blaze before it took hold.

"It appears the 13-year-old was questioned in relation to getting the petrol for the attack. He's a young lad who has got involved with the wrong crowd," said the source.

The owner of the house said his home "could have been burned to the ground" in the attack.

A file has been sent to the DPP on the matter.
