Body taken from canal in search for missing bank official

DIVERS searching for a missing bank official recovered a body this morning.

AIB worker Marian Naughton (57) went missing last Wednesday in Tullamore.

A body was recovered from the Grand Canal shortly after midnight and was removed to Tullamore Hospital.

Ms Naughton was last seen at the Grand Canal in the town where she worked at 2pm last Wednesday.

Garda divers were joined by the air support unit yesterday and up to 200 volunteers continued the search.

Family members and residents of Knockcroghery in Co Roscommon, where Ms Naughton is originally from, also travelled down to assist.

"It's intensive. It is being headed up by the gardai and there is a huge number of locals and work colleagues from AIB," said local councillor Sinead Dooley.

"She is very well known; she has worked for years in AIB and is a very popular lady. Everyone's thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time."
