Body may be missing man

A badly decomposed body found on a riverbank may be that of a murder victim.

A farmer found the body yesterday afternoon beside the Shannon at Portrine, Cratloe, Co Clare.

It is believed the body may be that of Frank Greene (48), originally from Kilteely, Co Limerick. He has been missing from his Limerick city flat since November 28 last.

Gardai are investigating the theory that Mr Greene was abducted from his Hartstonge Street basement apartment on the night of his disappearance.

Gardai believe the victim may have died violently.

A senior garda officer said that progress had been made in the investigation into the disappearance and he was hopeful the results of today's post- mortem examination would help the garda investigation.

Last month, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Limerick and questioned on suspicion of falsely imprisoning Mr Green on the night he disappeared.
