Body in Italy is missing gran (82)

The body of a pensioner who vanished in northern Italy almost 18 months ago has been recovered, it was revealed today.

The family of Mairead Geary has been advised by Italian authorities that DNA tests had confirmed the remains found last October are those of the 82-year-old.

The Limerick woman went missing in 2008 during a holiday on Lake Maggiore and, despite a huge search at the time, was not found.

The pensioner, from South Circular Road, was last seen when she went to take a cable car up to a viewing point on nearby Mount Mottarone.
