Bloom clean-up to take two weeks' hard work

AND now the clean-up begins. After tens of thousands of people visited Bloom over the Bank Holiday weekend, it will take organisers up to two weeks to clear everything away.

Work on restoring the Phoenix Park to it's original state got under way yesterday with staff working hard to get the process going.

It will take up to 14 days intensive work to clear its 27 show gardens, the largest marquee in the country and stalls after Ireland's largest gardening, food and family event.

Bloom Show manager Gary Graham said he is anxious to clean the remainders of the event as fast as he can.

"We are fully aware that we have to get things back to the way they were before as soon as possible, it is a public park," he said.

This year's festival did not match last year's record number of 90,000 revellers but Mr Graham was still delighted with the turnout.

"Monday was our most successful day from the past six years. We were expecting 17 or 18,000 but were shocked to note 25,000 came in,"

Mr Graham said he is already looking forward to next year.
