BLATHNAID can’t wait to camp it up at festival

RTE’s Blathnaid Treacy has cut her teeth on our TV screens from an early age.

But the former Glenroe child star (25) is also eager to hop on to the airwaves, The Herald can reveal.

She got her first taste of life on the radio after recently joining radio jocks Brian and Dara aka the Zoo Crew on Spin103.

“The main thing I want to do this summer is try to learn how to use the desk in the radio studio,” she said. “I was on with Brian and Dara before and I loved it. It was great fun and very different to TV in that you can rock in looking whatever way you like. The no make-up thing was great.

“I thought it was great craic as you’re ringing up people, having a bit of banter and playing the music you like.

Next week will see her signing off from RTE’s Two Tube show as she enjoys a well-earned break.

But she already has lots of things lined up to keep her busy over the coming months.

This week saw Blathnaid helping to launch the Vodafone Centre Stage Summer Festival, which will see Castlepalooza having its first festival fancy dress day. And she admitted she’s a “total festival bunny”.

Camping

“I literally come alive during the summer. I just love the whole outdoor vibe of festivals, even if it’s raining I don’t care. I’m really into music. All of my friends are musicians and my family are too,” she said.

And contrary to her well-groomed image, the Style Award nominee has no problem mucking in and camping with the hoi-polloi.

“I’m really into the camping. There’s nothing better than sitting around with your friends, having a laugh. Staying in a hotel is cheating. I’m a pro at this stage so I bring the dry shampoo, the baby wipes. I’m very organised.”
