A DUBLIN man who stole a bike from outside a gym was identified on CCTV cameras, a court heard.
John Comerford (30) made off with the bike, worth €500, which was not recovered.
Judge John Lindsay ordered Comerford to pay €500 compensation to the bike owner and donate €250 to charity.
The defendant, of Knockmore Green in Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to stealing a pedal cycle at Westpark Fitness Centre in Tallaght on June 19 last.
Sergeant Bernard Jones said Comerford was identified as the thief from CCTV cameras.
Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy said Comerford has battled a drug problem for a number of years.
Mr Hennessy also said Comerford was willing to pay compensation to the bike owner.
