Bertie Ahern has won a €10,000 jackpot in a lotto draw run by a Dublin soccer club.
The former Taoiseach's winning numbers came up in the draw run by Whitehall Rangers FC.
Club chairman Paddy Kelly told the Herald today there was a "big cheer" in the Beaumont House pub on the northside when it emerged that Bertie had scooped the big prize.
The prize had been been rolling over every week for almost a year.
"It takes about a year for the prize to get that big. Bertie regularly enters the draw as he comes to the pub most Saturday nights with a few friends," said Mr Kelly.
"Bertie wasn't in the pub for the draw on Sunday night but his good friend Dermot Carew, who owns the pub, told us he would give him the good news.
"Bertie frequently presents trophy for the club and we know him well."
The former Taoiseach had not been known as being particularly lucky until he told the Mahon Tribunal that he had won big sums backing horses.
