Batten down the hatches ... as twister hits the coast

IT was more like something from the Southern States of the USA -- but this stunning snap shows the formation of a funnel cloud in the Sunny South East.

The remarkable footage, from a video taken at Forth Mountain in Co Wexford, shows the rotating cone of wind forming near a home.

It was taken as freak weather hit Dublin yesterday, with lightning strikes, thunder and a department store window pane falling onto a busy pedestrian area on King Street South.

There were further thunderstorms across the country. But Met Eireann has promised better weather in the days ahead, with a pleasant weekend to come.
