Bar staff face drink death trial

TWO barmen are to go on trial charged with the man-slaughter of a man who died from alcohol intoxication.

The case is the first action of its kind in this country.

Bar manager Gary Wright (32) and barman Aidan Dalton (27) were employees of Hayes Hotel, in Thurles, Co Tipperary, Nenagh Circuit Court heard.

They were working when Graham Parish, a visitor from England, was a resident on the night of June 30, 2008.

Mr Parish was celebrating his 26th birthday. It is believed he choked to death on his own vomit as a result of acute alcohol intoxication.

The defendants, with addresses at Kilfithmone, Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, have been charged with unlawful killing.

Donegal holds tourist hooley

Tourism chiefs in Donegal aim to put the county on the map with a ceili in the capital.

Plans are in place to showcase what the north west has to offer Dubliners this summer by transforming Temple Bar with music, song and dance.

Donegal Live, on Sunday, May 16, will feature a ceili mor, step dancing and performances by a host of artists, including Altan, Maire Brennan and the Donegal Tenors.
