Bank plea on pay cap

AIB may consider recommending the Government to make an exception to break the cap on bank executive pay as it seeks to appoint a new chief executive.

AIB believes the new chief should be paid nearly €200,000 more than the agreed €500,000 cap.

The low rate salary, in terms of global banking terms, has already been questioned by financial regulator Matthew Elderfield.
