Bank job fears

Fears are growing for the future of jobs in Bank of Scotland (Ireland) with the group believed to be preparing a major announcement.

The bank is believed to be in discussions about how to establish itself as a "third force" merger of Irish lenders.

But there are reports that there could be an announcement about its position in Ireland this week.

The bank's own management is pitching the fact that the bank has a strong SME function, a legacy of its 2001 purchase of ICC, the former State-owned lender to Irish industry.
