Backing for exporters

COMPANIES selling goods overseas have been provided a guarantee for some exports from next Wednesday.

The Government-backed scheme promises to repay banks 75pc of a loan to a small exporter if a deal goes wrong. The three-year scheme could benefit up to 1,800 businesses a year.

However, exporters said that the new plan was unlikely to make much difference and was too costly for most companies.
