Attacker jailed for sex assault

A Mauritian national has received a seven-year sentence for a random sexual assault on a woman walking home alone in the early hours.

Akhilesh Aukhaj (24) of Drury Hall, Stephen's Street, was convicted of the sexual assault and assault causing harm of the woman by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury after a trial in October.

He had denied the incidents on Ranelagh Avenue on March 9, 2008.

Aukhaj is currently serving a three-year sentence with one year suspended for assaulting a French woman in 2008.

In the latest attack, the woman managed to flee after she kneed him in the groin.

Aukhaj was given seven years, with the final year suspended.
