Arson blamed for home inferno

A MASSIVE fire which gutted a derelict house was started deliberately, gardai believe.

The blaze, which started at around 7pm last night, destroyed the property at Charlesland near Greystones, Co Wicklow.

The scene remained sealed off this morning and officers are expected to carry out a technical examination later today.

Four units of Wicklow Fire Brigade and two garda patrol cars spent over an hour at the scene as the fire ripped through the two-storey building which has been unoccupied for years.

No one was injured in the incident which led to the roof of the house collapsing and massive structural damage to the building

There was slight traffic disruption in the area as firefighters battled to put out the fire in wet conditions. By 9pm the ruined house was a smouldering wreck.
