Armed robbers crash car after raid

TWO armed robbers who held up an Xtravision were caught after they crashed their car less than a mile away.

THE car was abandoned on an M50 flyover and gardai found two bin liner bags filled with the mobile phones and game consoles stolen from the video shop.

Ian Johnston (25) and another man were seen exiting the car and were later arrested. Johnston admitted robbing the shop and told gardai his fingerprints would be found on the bin bags.

Johnston of Knockmore Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal to robbery of the Xtravision, Knocklyon, on April 6, 2010.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring adjourned sentencing until the end of February.

Garda Padraig Malarky told Fiona McGowan, prosecuting, that Johnston was armed with a foot-long silver bar and said another man, who was holding a foot-long bread knife, was the main player in the robbery. He is still before the courts.
