Architects' nod for 'airy' works

The Japanese architecture team of Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa are the winners of this year's Pritzker Architecture Prize, the top honour in the field.

In their announcement, the Pritzker jury praised the duo for designing bright, airy structures that blend into their surroundings.

Among the projects mentioned by the jury were the Toledo Museum of Art's see-through Glass Pavilion and lower Manhattan's New Museum of Contemporary Art.

Ex-first lady still in hospital

Former First Lady Barbara Bush has remained in hospital in Houston, Texas, where she's undergoing what have been described as routine tests.

She was taken to hospital by her husband, former President George HW Bush, yesterday.

Photographer Gowland dies

Peter Gowland, a fashion photographer who invented elite cameras and equipment for his shoots, has died at 93.

Gowland shot more than 1,000 magazine covers, mostly glamour shots of female models but also celebrity portraits. Magazines he took photos for included Rolling Stone and Playboy.
