Alcoholic is jailed for shoplifting two flagons

A CHRONIC alcoholic who stole two flagons of cider and a bottle of vodka from a supermarket has been jailed for three months.

Father-of-three Martin McDonald (35) was sentenced by Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court.

McDonald, of Willow Wood Close, Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty to stealing the alcohol worth €22 at Lidl, Ballyowen Shopping Centre on June 12 last.

The court heard the property was recovered and the defendant did not give gardai any difficulty.

McDonald had a large number of prior convictions for offences, including theft.

He was already serving a sentence for another offence when he appeared before the court and Judge McHugh made the three months concurrent.
