Aer Lingus gets top award, offers new Florida perks

AER Lingus has been voted Best Airline at a prestigious customers' award ceremony in the UK.

The airline won the award at the HolidayExtras.com Customer Awards at a ceremony in London -- more than 25,000 British holidaymakers voted.

Today the airline also introduced business class on its non-stop flights to Orlando -- allowing passengers to enjoy extra comfort and service on their winter holidays in the sun or to the Florida theme parks.

The highly regarded UK award recognises excellence in customer service, great value for money, a smooth booking process, generous luggage allowance, friendly cabin crew and the overall "customer experience".

The airline fought off competition from leading carriers, including Virgin, Flybe, Continental and Jet2.

Some 107 airlines, 26 airports and thousands of hotels battled it out across 12 categories.

Aer Lingus was also short-listed in four other categories at the HolidayExtras.com Customer Awards 2010, including best airline for value for money, best airline cabin crew, best airline for travelling with babies and best airline for disabled passengers.

Declan Kearney, Aer Lingus director of communications, said: "We are absolutely delighted that our UK customers have voted Aer Lingus as Best Airline -- this is a great achievement for everyone at Aer Lingus, and something we are all very proud of.

"Aer Lingus is renowned for its high level of customer service and great value for money.

"We are very grateful to our UK customers for recognising us through this award."

Meanwhile, from today, Aer Lingus has introduced business class service on its three weekly direct flights to Orlando.

"We are delighted to offer our customers the choice of a two cabin service on flights to Orlando. The decision to introduce the option of business class is due to increased demand from our business and leisure customers.

"We look forward to welcoming customers on board to enjoy our great service," said Mr Kearney.

Aer Lingus operate three weekly direct flights from Dublin to Orlando on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Its business class offers lie flat sleeper seats and a state of the art in-flight entertainment system.

The UK award follows the airline's recent success in a survey by consumer watchdog website, Which.co.uk, where Aer Lingus was rated second out of 18 European airlines in a customer airline satisfaction survey.

Also, for the second year running, Aer Lingus has been voted Best Airline to Europe' at the Irish Travel Trade News Awards.
