Actors Caitriona and Moe up for Rising Star IFTA

Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe and a host of Irish stars have been announced as nominees for the Rising Star Award at this year's IFTA Film and Drama Awards.

The Monaghan actress (35) received a nod, along with Noble star Sarah Greene, Patrick's Day actor Moe Dunford and Out of Here director Donal Foreman.

The winning star will join the impressive ranks of past winners of the award, including Fifty Shades of Grey and The Fall actor Jamie Dornan, Shame star Michael Fassbender and Atonement actress Saoirse Ronan.

The star-studded ceremony will take place in the Round Room of the Mansion House in Dublin on May 24, and will be hosted by former Off The Rails presenter Caroline Morahan.

Controversy surrounded last year's show which was dogged by technical difficulties.

TV3 will broadcast this year's ceremony on May 25.

It won't be the first time Balfe has been honoured this year if she comes up trumps on the night.

The striking brunette, who began her career modelling for major fashion brands including underwear giant Victoria's Secret, featured in this year's Most Beautiful issue of US magazine People.

After hearing the good news, flattered Caitriona took to Twitter to thank the magazine for the compliment.

"My lanky inner 12 year old is gob-smacked x," the Monaghan native wrote.
