A Mother's Day jive and a photo of a little prince

Darina Veale (69) from Drumcondra was treated to an impromptu dance with her son Mick, while taking a Mother's Day stroll.

The perfectly-timed snap, in which Darina can be seen laughing heartily, was taken by Darina's other son, photo-journalist Fran Veale.

"We asked our mum what she wanted to do for Mother's Day and she told us she'd like to go for lunch in Blackrock," Fran said.

"After lunch we stopped at Sandycove. She's always loved Sandycove and used to bring us out there the whole time when we were kids."

Fran's brother Mick, a web designer, took the opportunity to dance with his mother, a retired piano teacher on the sea shore yesterday afternoon, with Fran managing to capture the moment just in time.

"My son Mick said to me 'Did you ever jive mum' and I told him that I was always taller than most of the boys so I'd have to duck. That's when he started dancing," Darina told the Herald.

Meanwhile, Prince George has shown how much he has grown in an official family photograph released on Mother's Day.

The eight-month old, who is third in line to the throne, is the centre of attention in the informal shot taken at Kensington Palace.

The future king of England seemed to only have eyes for the family's spaniel, Lupo.
