IT'S beginning to feel a lot like a traditional Christmas in Dublin. We've all been forced to go back to basics in recent times -- and it seems city officials have too.
This is the first look at the Christmas tree that will provide festive cheer on O'Connell Street after a four-year absence.
As reported in the Herald, gone are the bulbs and glass stems on Dublin's main thoroughfare and back is the old favourite.
The tree's lights will be switched on by Lord Mayor Naoise O Muiri on Sunday, November 25.
The glass version that was used on O'Connell Street will now go up in Smithfield.
The Dublin City Council decision was taken following discussions between the council, Dublin City Business Improvement District and the Dublin City Business Association.
Much work has been done in Smithfield this year, particularly to the square, which is fully pedestrianised.
