DUBLIN radio station 98fm has lost their Gossip Girl in a big restructuring of their entertainment output.
Popular presenter Siobhan O'Connor was one of two showbiz reporters at the station to lose out in the move.
"I've had an amazing eight years. This has happened but it's happened at the right time. From Robbie Williams to Julia Roberts, I've hundreds of A list interviews in the bag and ideas I want to discuss with other broadcasters," Ms O'Connor told the Herald.
Insiders at 98fm blamed the popularity of Twitter as a factor in the decision to cut down on entertainment reporters.
"Listeners can find out what celebrities like Beyonce are saying instantly on Twitter. You really don't need someone reporting the same thing an hour later," said a source.
The station insider said that 98fm's decision to relay the syndicated Ryan Seacrest Show featuring Hollywood gossip from 7pm-9pm each weeknight had also played a part.
However a source denied that the axing of jobs had anything to do with the cost of hiring of popular FM104 Phone Show hosts Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy Dixon to 98fm.
"It's a change of focus and a restructuring of entertainment at 98fm," said the source.
However, a station spokesman declined to comment to the Herald when contacted last night.
