UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon is to create 85 new jobs when it opens its fourth pub here - in Swords, north Dublin.

The company has spent €2.8m developing the outlet on the site of an existing pub, previously a school, on the main street in Swords.

The pub will be called The Old Borough and “will specialise in real ales, as well as craft and world beers, serving a wide range of different draught ales, as well as bottled beers, including those from local and regional brewers,” Wetherspoon said.

The pub’s manager Dan Foster said his team “are confident that it will be a great addition to the Swords community.”

The company already runs three pubs in Dublin: The Three Tun Tavern in Blackrock, The Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire and The Great Wood in Blanchardstown. It will open a pub in Cork in September, has bought a site in Waterford and has been eyeing a site in Carlow.
