€830m lost to 'sickies'

EMPLOYERS in Ireland lose up to €830m a year due to falsely claimed sick leave, according to a new European survey.

The French were found to be the most likely to take a 'sickie' with just 34pc saying a genuine physical or mental illness was the reason for their absence. A total of 51pc of Irish employees surveyed claimed their absence was legitimate, fractionally behind the British at 52pc.
