€5.8m library backing

IRISH libraries will benefit from a new €5.8m capital programme announced by the Government.

Up to €4.8m of this fund will be spent on the development of libraries in 2011 in addition to the €1m distributed for the purchase of new stock this year.

Visitor numbers to libraries throughout the country are growing with upwards of 16 million visits in 2010.

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Mr Phil Hogan said that the investment in libraries is money well spent that will yield a huge dividend in the years to come.
