56 deals raise €7.5bn

MERGERS and acquisitions in Ireland have already reached 56 this year, rising in value to €7.5bn.

However, although the value of transactions has increased, the volume of deals shows a decline of 12.5pc from the first three months of 2011.

Wendy Driver, Business Development Manager at Experian Corpfin, said that the Republic of Ireland represents 2.88pc of the total volume of all European transactions.

"There has been a significant upswing in the value of deal flow for the year to date," she said. "Merger and acquisition volumes have been fuelled by overseas investment and ongoing asset disposal programmes within the financial services industry."
