€4k for safest driver

YOUNG drivers nationwide will have their cars fitted with a hi-tech behaviour management system as part of a competition to crown Ireland's safest young driver.

The competition will test the driving abilities of more than 60 people between the ages of 17 and 21.

The devices, known as Ingenium Dynamics, measure speed, geo-positioning, braking force, rate of acceleration and severity of cornering. The technology will monitor and help to improve the contestants' driving over a 10-week period.

The driver who produces the highest scores will be awarded the title of Ireland's Safest Young Driver and a prize of €4,000 to be spent on insurance, fuel and related costs.
