€4bn smuggled cigs are seized

Almost €4bn worth of cigarettes that were smuggled into Dublin disguised as sports socks have been seized.

Gardai and officers from Revenue's Customs Service discovered the cigarettes in a Co Monaghan premises in an intelligence sweep on Saturday.

The nine million President brand cigarettes, which arrived in Dublin Port in a ship from Malaysia, are worth €3.8m and could have cost the Exchequer €3.2m.

Grave with 10 bodies found

Prosecutors have announced that they have found another clandestine grave holding 10 bodies in the northern Mexico state of Durango, bringing to 14 the number of such burial sites found in the state this year.

Soldiers found the 10 bodies last week in a field on the outskirts of the state capital, also called Durango, said the spokesman for the Durango state prosecutors' office. The total number of bodies believed related to drug gang violence found so far this year in clandestine graves in Durango now stands at 287.

Teen killed his gay classmate

A teen who fatally shot a gay classmate in the back of the head during a computer lab class nearly four years ago was sentenced to 21 years in state prison, capping an emotional case that focused attention on how schools deal with sexual identity.

Brandon McInerney (17) dressed in a white T-shirt and blue trousers, didn't speak at the hearing, but his lawyer said his client was sorry for killing 15-year-old Larry King.
