45pc more jobs in IT

VACANCIES in the IT sector soared by 45pc in the last year as average salaries saw a 7pc rise to €51,500.

The figures are in stark contrast to a 1.3pc drop in salaries across Ireland.

And more than half of IT professionals surveyed are optimistic about the Irish jobs market, with almost 60pc of Irish IT professionals expecting the market for jobs in their sector to improve in the next year.

Recruitment firm Greythorn said that just 17pc of professionals said they were expecting job losses or salary cuts before next year. The rise in salaries and employment is also due to a fall in the numbers of staff available.
